Winifred Hanby

Winifred “Winnie” Agnes Hanby, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on July 24, 2020 at 87 years of age. She was born in Stoneham, Massachusetts on April 23,1933 and was one of eight siblings.

Winnie married Charles Lewis Hanby on June 6, 1954, and they made their home in Williamson, New York, moving to Webster, N.Y. in fall of 1956 to raise their family.

She worked as a bookkeeper and was very active in parish life. She enjoyed taking her family on trips, from Cape Cod to camping. She loved watching her children grow, finish college, and excel in their pursuits.

In 1993, she moved to Taylors, South Carolina to be closer to her children and grandchildren.

As her family grew, they remained Winnie’s first love. On Sundays, she could be found first at church, then cooking and baking to welcome her family home for Sunday dinners. She continued to be an active parish volunteer, traveled extensively with her sisters and friends, and enjoyed making memories with her family, who will miss her dearly.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband Charles of 38 years.

She is survived by her children, Katherine Ciavardini and husband, Joseph, Charles Hanby Jr. and wife, Lisa, Michael Hanby and wife, Teri, Paula McGarry and husband, Michael, Patricia Moore and husband, Steven, and Richard Hanby and husband, Scott McKnight; grandchildren, Todd Ciavardini, Jennifer Stewart, Robin Williams, Megan Hanby, Erin Osterland, Shannon Hanby, Alex Hanby, Austin Hanby, Michael McGarry Jr., Brian McGarry, Tara Boulware, Sarah Moore, and Elizabeth Moore; and 10 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Mary Katherine Crow, and brother, Peter Molander and wife, Mary.

The family would like to acknowledge the love and support of the staff at the Gardens at Eastside, who also share in the loss of Winnie.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on July 30, 2020 at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Simpsonville, S.C.
