Gerald Keith Carter, 73, of Greenville, S.C. passed away at his home on Monday, October 11, 2021.
He was born in Pickens, SC to the late Jasper Howard and Julia Lucille Carter.
He was also predeceased by a sister, Judy Elaine, and his beloved grandmother, Lola Lee Nalley.
Gerald graduated from Parker High School in 1966 and joined the United States Army where he served as a Sergeant in the infantry. He served for 2 years in the Vietnam War and was given several awards, including two bronze service stars. After his service, he attended Greenville Technical College and earned an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice. He worked as a police officer and then retired in 2011, after more than 20 years of dedicated service.
He enjoyed gospel music and going to church at Pebble Creek Baptist Church. He also enjoyed shooting for target practice with his daughter and spending time with his family. He loved his three fur babies, Ellie, Logan, and Chico, and he spoiled them daily. He showed kindness to the less fortunate at every opportunity that presented itself and he had a tender heart to help others. He was a wonderful father and grandfather.
He is survived by one daughter and son in law, Angie and Chistopher Carsten, five grandchildren, Ashley and Anna Mann, Topper, Taylor, and Victoria Carsten, and one great-grandchild, Basil. He is also survived by a sister and brother in law, Faye and Robert Dickard, and one niece and her husband, Lynn and Kyle Odum. He also had a few special friends that he held dear to his heart, and we are very thankful to them for their love and support.
The family will have a private celebration of his life.
