Grief Support

Our compassionate staff is here to help you through the grieving process.

Grief has no timetable, and neither does our support of those enduring the loss of a loved one. Even after the service is over, we are available. If you’ve experienced your own loss or are hoping to help a loved one, our Grief Resources were created to provide you with support during this difficult time.

On Staff Grief Resources Counselor

Whether families choose burial or cremation services, they have access to our full-time Grief Resources Counselor, Dan Kirkpatrick, MDiv, BCC. Dan is available for families who might be having a particularly difficult time with their grief and are in need of ongoing bereavement resources. Through his contacts in the community and work to continuously evaluate grief support offerings for quality and family fit, Dan is able to guide families toward community resources that best fit their needs. Dan’s services are complimentary to Thomas McAfee families, as an extension of our service to you.

Dan Kirkpatrick, MDiv, BCC

When people share their thoughts and feelings, I am aware that I have been invited into a sacred space.  As the Director of Grief Resources and Education for Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, I am very grateful for the privilege of serving the unique needs of our families through compassionate grief support. At Thomas McAfee, we understand the importance of being present, listening with our hearts and being aware of how seemingly small details make a huge difference.  In addition to connecting our families with excellent grief resources that are available locally and nationally, I look forward to partnering with faith communities, organizations and health care providers who want to develop their grief resources.

Children’s Grief Library

As there is no time limit on grief, neither is there an age limit. At Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, we recognize the unique grief experienced by children and it is important to us to provide support for that need. In addition to our many grief resources, we have an established Children’s Grief Library with books and materials suited just for kids as they experience their own grief journey. Families often share with us how inclusive, timely and supportive this resource is for their children and family.
