Mendel Ray Rivers, 73, of Greenville, passed away Sunday, July 17, 2022.
Born in Greenville, SC, he was the son of the late Asa and Nellie Waldrop Rivers.
Mendel proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He took great pride and loyalty in his country and he was always up for a good political debate. Mendel had a very generous heart and was known for always lending a helping hand to any and everyone. He loved spending time with his brother’s dogs; something that brought him great pleasure and joy. Above all, he loved and was loved and his presence will be missed, but his memory will continue on through each person’s life that he touched.
He is survived by sister, Sonja Davis; brother, Chris Rivers (Shawna); nieces, Cassie Jade Rivers, Abbie Carver, Tonya Ann Davis, and Billie Jean Garrett; nephews, Colt Rivers, Jaydan Carver, and Nicholas Bryant; and great-niece, Emma Bailey Garrett.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother, Warren V. “Butch” Rivers.
A visitation will be held Saturday, July 23, 2022, from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Northwest, with a graveside service to follow at 1:00 p.m. in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
