Pamela Jane Rhodes Ledbetter, 69, passed away on September 17, 2022 at home with her two daughters by her side.
Born to George L. Rhodes and Ruby Courtney Smith in Charlotte, North Carolina, Pam is survived by her daughters, Allison Walsh (Spiff) of Simpsonville, S.C. and Emily Ledbetter of Greenville, S.C, and grandchildren, Jane and Will Walsh, all of whom she shared with her former husband, Marshall.
She was predeceased by her parents and a brother, Charles “Tom” Rhodes, whom she lovingly cared for until his death in 2008.
Pam was first diagnosed with cancer in 2004, but never let it slow her down. On most weekends, she could be found wandering the local farmers market, visiting all the garden centers in town, working in her yard, filling her bird feeders, poking around local antique and vintage shops and finishing the day with an ice-cold gin martini. She ran her first (and last!) half marathon on her 60th birthday, followed by a 28.3 mile hike in support of the Make-A-Wish Foundation at 62. Her two grandchildren, of whom she was immensely proud, were treated to sleepovers, picnics, beach trips, and special holiday traditions that will fill their memories for a lifetime. Pam retired in 2021 after working with her dear friend, John Scovil, as the financial controller for multiple businesses for more than 25 years.
The family would like to offer their sincere gratitude to Dr. Larry Gluck and the Prisma Health Cancer Institute team for the exceptional care they provided over the past 18 years. They would also like to thank Debbie Godfrey and Nerissa Singleton of Interim Hospice for the compassionate support they provided in Pam’s final days.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. on Thursday, September 22, 2022 at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. The memorial service will follow at 4:00 p.m., in the Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Pam’s memory to the National Audubon Society at www.audobon.org or the Institute for Translational Oncology Research (ITOR) at Prisma Health at www.prismahealth.org.
