Carol M. Paul died April 30, 2023 after a long illness. Born in Yonkers, New York to Edward and Julia (Grott) Otis, she was the youngest of their three children. Most of her schooling was at Blessed Sacrament Academy, where she spent many happy years with the cloistered nuns who ran the school.
She married J. D. (Dave) Paul in April, 1961. They moved to Columbus Ohio in 1965, where Carol had their three children and ran a prosperous candle-making business from their basement. In 1974, they transferred to Boynton Beach, Florida; in 1984, they purchased Scheurer’s Chocolates and Carol became “the sweetest girl in town.” In 1997, she sold the thriving business to relocate to Greenville, South Carolina, rejoin her husband who had moved to assist their son Michael, and to enjoy their retirement. She made many crafts look easy and shared her love of knitting and other needle arts with friends and charities.
Carol and Dave celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary on April 29.
Carol is survived by her husband Dave, their daughter Robin, both of Greenville; their son Robert of Phoenix, and daughter of her heart Vicky of Mauldin. She was predeceased by her parents, sister, brother and son, Michael.
The funeral Mass will be at Noon on May 16th at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in downtown Greenville.
Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s or St. Rafka’s in Greer.
