Bobby Tipton, 84, beloved husband of 62 years to Mary Howell Tipton, passed away on Monday, August 28, 2023.
Born on December 11, 1938, in Dorsey, NC, he was a son of the late David and Virginia Calhoun Tipton.
Bobby spent his years working in the textile industry, leaving a lasting impact during his 55-year tenure at J.P. Stevens Dunean and Slater Plant. His unwavering commitment and expertise as a supervisor garnered the respect and admiration of his colleagues and superiors alike.
Outside of his professional life, Bobby was deeply involved in his church, Monaghan Baptist Church. He dedicated his time and energy to serving on various committees and selflessly shared his knowledge and compassion as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher. He found solace and strength in his faith, allowing it to guide him in his interactions with others and shape his character.
Those who had the privilege of crossing paths with Bobby will remember his gentle nature, warm smile, and genuine kindness. He touched the lives of many through his humility, patience, and willingness to lend a helping hand.
In addition to his wife, Mary, he is survived by daughter, Frances Grace Tipton; brother, Keith Tipton of Bryson City, NC; special friend, Mary Lou Plumley; many beloved nieces and nephews; and two fur babies, Fancy and Hachi.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, Ed Calhoun and Jimmy Calhoun; sisters, Joyce Jones and Louise Jenkins.
A memorial service will be held Friday, September 1, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Northwest with the visitation to follow until 8:00 p.m.
