James “Jim” Wayne Cooper, Sr., 80, beloved husband of Dorothy “Dot” Cooper, passed away on Monday, June 5, 2023.
Born in Columbia, SC, he was the son of the late John and Lois Meade Cooper.
Jim’s faith played a central role in his life, and he was an active member of Cedar Rock Baptist Church.
One of Jim’s greatest passions was hunting. He had a deep connection with nature and spent countless hours pursuing deer and rabbits in the great outdoors. For over 50 years, he honed his skills as a hunter, becoming known for his exceptional marksmanship.
Jim had a keen interest in World War II. He was a true enthusiast, fascinated by the historical events and the sacrifices made by those who served during that time.
In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by daughters, Sherry Rector and Jennifer DeMaria (Marco); son, James “Jimmy” Wayne Cooper, Jr.(Audrey); sister, Margaret Christy; grandchildren, Michael Rector (Leigh Ann), Christopher Rector, James “Jay” Wayne Cooper, III, Erica Cooper, Victoria DeMaria, David DeMaria, and Morgan Ball (Eli); and great grandchildren, Gianna Hughes and Cora Ball.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by son-in-law, Ben Rector.
A visitation will be held Thursday, June 08, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Northwest. The graveside service will be held Friday, June 9, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at Graceland Cemetery West.
