Norma LaVerne Stone, age 89, beloved wife of the late Cleveland Ray Stone, peacefully passed away and was called home by her Lord and Savior on Friday, June 21, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
Norma was born in Greenville, SC, the daughter of the late Edward and Lettie Smith Burdette.
Mrs. Stone was a dedicated member of Rockvale Baptist Church before becoming a cherished part of Rock Springs Baptist Church. In her earlier years, Mrs. Stone expressed her creativity through music, composing four beloved Christian hymns, a testament to her deep faith. Her desire was for her compositions to someday be set to music, a wish that reflected her passion for worship.
Mrs. Stone dedicated many years to serving others, notably through her volunteer work at Easley Baptist Hospital. Her selflessness and compassion touched countless lives, leaving an indelible mark on her community.
Known for her vibrant spirit, Mrs. Stone approached life with enthusiasm, even during challenging times. She maintained her elegance and grace, always ensuring her hair and makeup were impeccably done, a reflection of her dignity and strength.
Norma found joy in preparing delicious meals for her family, demonstrating her love through her favorite dishes. In her leisure time, she enjoyed watching her favorite television shows, with some of her favorites such as Gunsmoke and of course, Golden Girls, often rocking in the recliner with her beloved dog, Skipper.
Her infectious laughter and radiant personality lit up every room she entered, endearing her to all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Mrs. Stone’s warmth and kindness drew people to her, creating lasting friendships and memories cherished by many.
She is survived by son, Sidney Wayne Fleming; two daughters, Deborah LaVerne Stone Crump and Vicki Raegina Bowers; nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her loving husband and parents, Norma was preceded in death by one son, Darvin Earl Fleming; two brothers, Roy Burdette and Arnold Burdette; one sister, Willie Jo “Bill” Ward.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, June 25, 2024 from 2:00 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Northwest followed by the Funeral Service at 3:00 p.m. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, West.
