Norma Jean Whitt, 75, wife of Michael Whitt, died Sunday, July 31, 2022, from complications of Alzheimer’s disease.
Born in Slater, SC, on May 20, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Edna Jones Epps.
Jean was one of six children in the Epps family. She worked in industrial manufacturing for Booth Electrosystems, Inc. for 22 years and later for Computer Dynamics, Inc. for nine years. Jean was a loving “Nannie” to her two granddaughters and a successful gardener who tended beautiful rose bushes as well as indoor Christmas cactus plants. Although Jean and Michael only married on June 21, 2003, they have loved each other for over 43 years.
She is survived by her husband, Michael Whitt; daughter, Delle Patterson; grandchildren, Amy Denise McHone and Samantha Dawn Patterson; sisters, Dianna Lynn Dunlap and Joan Earle Wilson; and brothers, Paul Edward Epps and Billy Wayne Epps.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy Ann Epps Painter.
The family would like to thank all the people who helped care for Jean during the past few years, especially Suzanne, Dianna, and Kris. Also, special thanks to all the great and caring people at Senior Helpers and Open Arms Hospice.
A visitation will be held Thursday, August 4, 2022, from 12:30 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Downtown, followed by the Funeral Service at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be in Greenville Memorial Gardens at 3:00 p.m.
