Alice R. Phillips

Alice R. Phillips, 95, of 146 Broughton Dr., Greenville, died Friday, August 1, 2008 at St. Francis Hospital, Downtown. Born in Anderson County on April 3, 1913, she was the daughter of the late George and Essie Williams Roper. Alice Phillips and her late husband, T. Earle Phillips, were the owners of the Powdersville Super Market, and in later years, presided over a fruit and vegetable stall at the Greenville Farmers Market. She was an active member of Northgate Baptist Church, an avid gardener, and a tireless practical joker. Alice Phillips is survived by her son, Charles Phillips of Greenville; daughter, JoAnna Clark of Duluth, GA; brother, Houston Roper; sister, Frances Payne; seven grandchildren; two great-grandsons; and two great-great grandsons. The Funeral Service will be conducted Sunday at 3:00 pm in the Downtown Chapel of Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, with visitation prior from 1:30 pm until 3:00 pm.
