Alma Jean Batson, 83, of Easley, passed away peacefully the morning of Sunday, September 12, 2021, after an extended illness.
Born and raised in Greenville, SC, she was a daughter of the late Willis and Louise Hamby Kimbrell of Greenville.
She was a lifelong member of Salem United Methodist Church and a graduate of Welcome High School.
A devoted mother to her children, Jean was loved by everyone she met. She loved to travel, visiting places all over the world. One of her more memorable trips was seeing her favorite artist, Elvis Pressley in concert.
Jean is survived by her son, Randall “Randy” Shurrager and his wife Tina of Myrtle Beach; daughter, Kim Kasko of the home; sister, Barbara Cole of Pelzer; brother-in-law, Wayne Forrester of Powdersville; grandchildren, Rick Shurrager, Nicholas Basic, and Jennifer Goode; great grandchildren, Victoria, Madyson, Elijah, Bethany, and Ashton; multiple nieces, nephews, and their families; her faithful companion, her kitty, Lily; and many friends she made during her life.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband and love of her life, Airman First Class Raymond F. “Rick” Shurrager; brothers, Larry Kimbrell of Greenville, and Gerald Kimbrell of North Augusta; sister, Peggy Forrester of Powdersville; and husband, Ralph Batson of Traveler’s Rest.
A service will be held Friday, September 17, 2021, at 1:30 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown, with The Reverend Robert Griswald officiating. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 12:00 p.m. until 1:15 p.m.
