Alma Parnese Parnell Harrison Palmer, of Greenville, South Carolina, went to be with our Lord and Savior on Thursday, January 27, 2022.
Known to most of her family as, “Tootsie”, Mrs. Palmer was born to Albert Lester and Sarah Mildred Nixon Parnell on June 12, 1930 in Lowndesville, South Carolina. She was a faithful member of the Second Presbyterian Church in Greenville.
Alma loved people and always had a warm and loving disposition. She enjoyed collecting Bibles and sending them to be distributed to people in need. She also collected warm blankets and crocheted afghans for the homeless shelters. Her real passion in most recent years had become crocheting hundreds of Christmas stockings and Easter chic’s for local Elementary Schools and Children’s Homes. She made booties and hats for the Neonatal Units at local Hospitals and if you were especially fortunate, you may even own one of her beautifully crocheted afghans that she made for special friends and family.
Alma worked many jobs over the years, her last one being for Reliance Electric Company in Greenville. She retired in 1992.
She is survived by one sister, Mildred Robison, of Anderson, South Carolina. In addition, she leaves behind, eight Grandchildren: Ronald E. Harrison, Tonya L. Harrison, Charlie K. Harrison, Mandy D. Ashley, Dawn M. Chastain, Matthew M. Harrison,Daniel D. Harrison and Jessica M. Triplett. Also, fourteen Great-Grand Children and eight multi-Great Grandchildren and numerous Nieces and Nephews.
Mrs. Palmer is also survived by a very special son-in-law, John Wesley (Wes) Triplett, whom she often referred to as, “her own son”.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Charlie Odell Harrison, Sr. and her second husband, Walter E. Palmer, along with her four children: Charlie Marion Harrison, Ronald Harrison, Joan Marie (Harrison) Triplett and James Michael Harrison. Also preceding her death were her siblings: John M. Parnell, M. Juanita Parnell Tate, James D. Parnell Sr. and William H. Parnell Sr., including two Great-Great Grandsons.
Funeral Services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 5, 2022 at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, 6710 White Horse Road, Greenville, South Carolina 29610 with Chad T. Bailey officiating.
Interment will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the Greenville Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. on Friday, February 4, 2022 at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home on Whitehorse Road in Greenville.
