Alvah Wilbanks Aiken

Alvah Wilbanks Aiken, 82, of 985 Piney Grove School Road, Gray Court, SC, died Saturday, December 17, 2005. Born in Greenville, Mrs. Aiken was the wife of Harold W. Aiken, Sr., and the daughter of the late John Bunyan and Mae McMahon Wilbanks. She was a graduate of Parker High School, Class of 1941 and attended Anderson College on a music scholarship. She then worked as a receptionist for Dr. J.E. Crosland. Mrs. Aiken was the last member of the Wilbanks Sisters Trio, who sang for many funerals conducted by Thomas McAfee Funeral Home. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Laurens, and a former member of Earle Street Baptist Church. She was a very active member of Earle Street Baptist Church, serving in the church choir, as former director of the XYZ Club and the youth of the church. She was a current member of the Martha Franks Singers. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons, Harold W. ?Bill? Aiken, Jr. and his wife Nell, and Larry Bunyan Aiken, all of Gray Court; five grandchildren, Scott and Mark Aiken, Kristen and Colleen Aiken and Chuck Reid; and one great-grandchild, Will Reid. She was predeceased by her brother, Thurman and sisters, Clara, Etta, Blanche and Ruth. Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 Noon on Tuesday, December 20, 2005 at the Chapel of Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. Visitation will be held from 10:30 ? 11:45 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Committal will be at Woodlawn Memorial Mausoleum. Memorials may be made to Martha Franks Singers, 1 Martha Franks Drive, Laurens, SC 29360 or Earle Street Baptist Church, 225 W. Earle St., Greenville, SC 29609. The family will be at the residence.
