Barbara Morgan Henderson, 91, devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, peacefully departed this world on June 25, 2008, seven months after the death of her husband, the late Robert Earl Henderson. They were married for 70 years. Mrs. Henderson was born on October 30, 1916, in Greenville to the late Andrew and Anna Spence Morgan. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Bill Morgan and a sister, Leon Morgan Smith. After attending Lander College, Mrs. Henderson married her high school sweetheart and became a respected homemaker and Kindergarten teacher, one of the passions of her life. She served as a teacher at the Donaldson Air Force Base program, director of the Judson Baptist Church program, and director of the Reedy Fork Baptist Church Mother's Morning Out program. She retired at the age of 80, after 37 years of teaching young children. Mrs. Henderson was a member of Reedy Fork Baptist Church where she was an active member of the Faith Alive Sunday School Class. She was a lifelong member of the Mae Henderson Circle and was also active in the Young-at-Heart Senior group. Her most treasured memories were family beach vacations, cooking a delicious "southern" lunch for her family each Saturday, and traveling around the United States and Europe with her treasured family and friends. Mrs. Henderson is survived by two devoted daughters and sons-in-law, Anna and Bruce Holcombe and Kathy and Mo Howard. Grandchildren are Mark Holcombe and his wife, Lori, Beth Reynolds and her husband, Nate, Chip Howard. Great grandchildren, Elizabeth. Hayes and Davis Holcombe, and Nathan, Morgan and Anna Reynolds. The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 26, 2008 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. The funeral service will be held Friday, June 27, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Reedy Fork Baptist Church with the Reverend Van Pigate officiating. Burial will follow in Greenville Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers will be Jim Garrison, Billy Woods, Billy Holcombe, William Jones, Gary Richardson, Terry Blakely, George Smith, Jr., Billy Morgan, Mike Morgan and Rusty Morgan. Honorary pallbearers will be the Faith Alive Sunday School Class and the Reedy Fork Young-at-Heart Seniors. The family would like to give special thanks to all of Mrs. Henderson's caregivers at The Springs and Heartland Hospice.
