Boyce Canada Putman, Jr., a dedicated and respected member of the community, passed away on December 14, 2023, at the age of 88. He was born on February 26, 1935, in Slater, South Carolina, to the late Boyce and Willie Putman.
Boyce’s passion for life was evident in his many accomplishments and unwavering commitment to his family, friends and community. He was a loving father, devoted husband, and adored grandfather. Boyce was known as quite a jokester and never met a stranger.
Boyce enjoyed a 35 year career in pest control with Terminix where he excelled as a Regional Manager. His dedication to his work and his extensive knowledge in the industry made him a trusted leader among his colleagues.
Outside of his professional pursuits, Boyce was an avid golfer and took great joy in spending time on the golf course. Boyce also served as a volunteer firefighter for 15 years for the Wade Hampton Fire Department, selflessly giving his time and expertise to protect and serve others. His commitment to the well-being of his community was commendable, reflecting his selfless nature.
Boyce is survived by his beloved son, Boyce Putman, III, and loving daughter-in-law, Tammy Putman, along with his cherished son, Martin Putman, and caring daughter-in-law, Laura Putman. Boyce will also be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Brock Putman and his wife, Renee Putman, Breana Shepard and her husband, Matt Shepard, Brittany Putman, and Bryan Putman. His great-grandchildren, Mason Putman, Gunner Shepard, Oaklynn Shepard, and Dawson Shepard, will forever cherish the memories they shared with their adoring great-grandfather.
In addition to his parents, Boyce was preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years, Betty Putman; grandson, Brayden Putman; sisters, Joyce Gooding, Dorothy Kerns and Doris Henson; and brothers, George Putman, Robert Putman and Walter Putman.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Downtown. The funeral will immediately follow will 2:00 p.m. in the chapel. Burial will be in Greenville Memorial Gardens.
