C. Hunter Gallman

January 3, 1922 - February 6, 2006
C. Hunter Gallman, 84, of 204 Bridgewater Drive, husband of Beatrice Byers Gallman, died Monday, February 06, 2006 at Greenville Memorial Medical Center. Born in York, SC., he was the son of the late C.C. and Hattie Wood Gallman. Mr. Gallman was a retired Textile Executive from J.P Stevens, Lowenstein, and Springs Industries. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Greenville for over 40 years. He was a private pilot with Instrument and Multi-Engine rating, enjoyed golfing, hunting, and fishing. Mr. Gallman was a United States Army Veteran having served as Captain with the 3rd Armour Division. He was recognized as Man of the Year, National Secretary Association in 1970, selected by the Association of Textiles Industrial Engineers ATIE as Executive of the Year in 1982, received the Chapman Award from the Southern Textile Association in 1985, was Textile Leader of the Year for the SCTMA in 1984, and was named one of the top ten Textiles Executives by TEXTILE World Magazine in 1984. Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Thomas C. Gallman of Greenville; a daughter and son-in-law, Martha and Barrett Alewine of Columbia; four granddaughters, Rebecca Gregory, Emily Alewine, Lauren Alewine all of Columbia, Ashley Hunter Gallman of Powdersville; two great-granddaughters, Caroline and Lindsay Gregory both of Columbia; two sisters, Catherine Rochester of Townville, and Dottye Lennon of Fairfax, VA. He was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Lindsay Gallman. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Greenville, 847 Cleveland Street, Greenville. Visitation will be held Wednesday February 08, 2006 from 6:30 until 8:30 PM at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, February 09, 2006 at 1:30 PM at First Baptist Church, Greenville. Entombment will follow in Greenville Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will be at the residence.
