Carl Byerly Smothers, Sr

Carl Byerly Smothers, Sr., 68, of 705 Furman Hall Road, died July 21, 2004 at North Greenville Hospital. Born in Hartsville, SC, he was the son of the late William F. and Virdie Marie Lundy Smothers. He served in the US Army and was a construction worker. Surviving are his wife, Margaret Smothers of Piedmont; two daughters, Beverly Jones and her husband, Blease, of Greenville, Tammy Garrett and her husband, Steve, of Greenville; a son, Carl Smothers, Jr. and his wife, Danielle, of Piedmont; six grandchildren, Brian Jones, Christopher Jones, Benji Garrett and his wife, Kacie, Damon Garrett, Austin Smothers and Kaitlyn Smothers; a great-grandchild, Hallie Garrett; three sisters and one brother. Visitation will be held from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. Saturday at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. The funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home chapel with burial in Golden Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Liberty. The family is at 701 Furman Hall Road.
