Carl Bill Eugene Thomas, Jr., 80, of Greenville died Wednesday, July 30, 2008, after a brief illness at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Greenville, he was the son of the late Carl E. Thomas, Sr. and Cornelia Herbert Thomas. Mr. Thomas retired from BellSouth/AT&T after thirty-eight years of services. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and past Master of the Monaghan Masonic Lodge, # 251. He was a veteran of the US Navy. Bill was a faithful member of Woodside Baptist Church, serving as church treasurer for eighteen years, member of the PALS Sunday School Class, and an usher. He also helped with construction of the Sunday school building. Surviving is his loving wife of fifty-three years, Margaret G. "Sis" Thomas; daughters, Carla Thomas Lewis and her husband, Michael, Julie Thomas Kay and her husband, Barry; sisters, Eugenia T. Meadows, Maree T. League; three step grand children; four step great grandchildren; and special great nieces and nephews, Laurin L. Hammett, Courtney L. Guinee-Moody, David S. Hammett, Jr. and Doug Moody, Jr. Visitation will be Saturday, August 2, 2008 from 6:30-8:00 pm at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest.
The funeral service will be Sunday, August 3, 2008 at 3:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, West. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Woodside Baptist Church, Sound System Fund, 301 Woodside Avenue, Greenville, SC 29611 or Lutheran Hospice House, 218-A Trade Street, Greer, SC 29651. The family will be at 203 Summergrass Drive, Greenville.
