Catherine Elizabeth Gecan Butler

Catherine Elizabeth Gecan Butler, 91, widow of Robert William Butler, died Monday, April 22, 2013. Born in Oregon, IL, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Antonia Dellach Gecan. Mrs. Butler was a member of Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church since 1955. She began serving as a volunteer at St. Francis Hospital in 1968. Over the next 45 years, she worked faithfully in several areas at St. Francis Downtown, the front desk, the chart room in Outpatient Surgery and Education, contributing more than 19, 500 hours as a volunteer. Surviving are three sons, Stephen Butler and wife Sarah, of Simpsonville, James Butler and wife Ellen, of Taylors and Richard Butler, of Greenville; a brother, Stephen Gecan and wife Marilyn, of Oregon, IL; four grandchildren, Anthony James Butler, Nicholas Michael Butler, Catherine Anne Butler, and Matthew Stephen Butler; six great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren. Mrs. Butler was predeceased by a brother, Edward G. Gecan. Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 24, 2013 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, April 25, 2013 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church. Burial will be in Greenville Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church, 3710 Augusta Rd., Greenville, SC 29605 or St. Francis Hospital, 1 St. Francis Dr., Greenville, SC 29601. The family will be at their respective homes.
