Charles Bondurant Dudley

Charles Bondurant Dudley, 88, husband of Nancy Brockman Dudley, died December 19, 2007. Born in Greenwood, MS on August 16, 1919, he was the son of the late Martin G. Dudley and Mary Bondurant Dudley. Mr. Dudley was a cotton broker and attended Christ Church for the last sixteen years. He graduated from the Baylor School in Chattanooga in 1937 and attended Georgia Tech and Furman University. He served during World War II in the Air Force from 1941 to 1945. He won numerous invitational golf events in the Southeast, including the prestigious North-South in 1947, the South Carolina State Championship in 1948 and the Carolinas Championship in 1952. He qualified for seven U.S. Amateurs and played in two U.S Opens. He won several Greenville Country Club championships and was inducted in the South Carolina Golf Hall of Fame in 1989. Mr. Dudley was a member of the Greenville Country Club, former member of the Poinsett Club and Green Valley Country Club, and the Cotillion Club. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are three children, Bonnie Dodson and husband John, Ann Holley and husband Larry, and Martin G. Dudley and wife Kathy, and son-in-law Richard Meyer III; eight grandchildren, Carter Wilcox, Charles Meyer, Will Dodson, Georgia Dodson, Rita Mitchell, Dana Mitchell, Charles B. Dudley II, and John Dudley; and a sister Frances Dudley. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Rita O?Quinn Dudley in 1991, and by a daughter, Frances Meyer in 2004. Graveside services will be conducted on December 21, 2007 at 2 p.m. at Greenville Memorial Gardens.
