Charles Wakefield White

Charles Wakefield White, 83, widower of Barbara Zoe White, died Wednesday, April 11, 2007 at Brighton Gardens. Born in Dallas, TX., he was the son of the late Charles Ashley and Bernice Harper White. Mr. White was a graduate of the University of Florida, where he attended on a football scholarship. He was employed with JC Penney as store manager for 25 years and retired from Belk Simpson, Greenville, as store manager after 15 years and was of the Baptist faith. He was a United States Army veteran having served during WWII with the Battery B 226th AAA Searchlight Battalion and served in England, France, Belgium. Holland, Germany and Luxemburg. Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel Terrance and Donna White of Brookings, OR., Mark Ashley and Deborah White of Piedmont, Charles Scott and Terri White of Greenville; six grandchildren, Kevin Ashley White, Jayson Daniel White, Charles Ryan White, Merri Frush, James Eric Martin, Justin Andrew Martin; two great grandchildren, Charles Asher Isaiah White and Ava Gabrielle White. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jackie White. Memorials may be made to The Marine Corps League, Detachment 1105, 1155 Tall Oaks Circle, Piedmont, SC 29673. Funeral services and burial will be held in New Smyrna Beach, Fl. at a later date.
