Charles Wilson Hand of Greenville, SC, formerly of Shelby, NC, passed away at his home on August 2, 2008 following an extended illness. He retired from Milliken in 2005 after 34 years. He was an avid woodworker and turner and belonged to the Greenville Woodturners Guild and the Asheville Woodturners Guild. He was a United States Army veteran. He has owned a Triumph since college days and was presently having his TR250 restored. He is survived by his children, Chea Hand and Brian Hand of Greensboro, NC, Will Hand and wife, Leila, of Rock Hill, SC, Erin Hand Brooks of York, SC; as well as four grandchildren, Shirley, Allie, Aaron and Melia Brooks. He is also survived by his sister, Nancy Mercier of Shelby, NC; a sister-in-law, Jeanne Hand of Annapolis, MD; an aunt, Frankie Howell of Charlotte, NC; as well as a niece and nephew and countless cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Louise Hand and a brother, Carl Hand III Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 6, 2008 from 6:30 until 8:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown, 639 N. Main Street, Greenville, SC 29601.

Charlie and I both worked for Milliken. I left Milliken in'93 and only saw Charlie on accasional visits to milliken since then. I was not aware of his retirement and subsequent illness. Our prayers go out for you all.

Charles "Sonny" Hand was a great guy. He loved to laugh and make other people laugh. We're really going to miss him.
