Christine Mills Porter went to be with her Lord on Friday, January 29, at the age of 98. She passed away after a brief illness.
Christine was born on February 14, 1922 in Plantersville, Alabama.
She is preceded in death by Vernon Porter, her husband of 59 years, her parents, Bertha and Howard G. Mills, and one sister, Kathryn Merritt, of Plantersville, Alabama, a brother H, G, Mills, Jr., of Orlando, Florida, and another brother, A. Gordon Mills, of Warrior, Alabama.
She is survived by two sons, Michael (Lori) of Charleston, S. C., and Gary (Mary) of Alexandria, VA. She had three grandchildren, Alyssa Porter (Marc), and Iris and Henry Porter.
She attended Alverson Business school in Birmingham, Alabama and worked in civil service for 26 years. Christine was a devoted servant of her Lord, and was an active member of Taylors First Baptist Church for many years. Before that she attended both Riverbend and Wando Woods Baptist churches in Charleston. Her most recent church home was Summerville Baptist Church.
The family would like to express their most heartfelt thanks to Crescent Hospice as well as the many wonderful members of the staff at Indigo Hall Assisted Living who helped her over the last year and eased her transition through their many prayers. A private service will be held at a later date in Taylors, S.C.
