Christopher Howard McCarter died Sunday, June 1, 2008, at his residence. Chris was an avid cyclist and a dedicated journalist. He graduated from the University of Georgia and began his journalism career at the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer in Columbus, GA and lived and worked as a financial journalist in Washington, DC for 20 years. He received numerous awards for outstanding journalism. He was a business reporter for the Greenville News for 2 years and later volunteered his talents to alternative newspapers in SC. In Greenville's downtown area, Chris founded Pedal Power Delivery, Greenville's first bicycle courier service, and was most recently employed as a bike courier and business consultant for Jimmy Johns Gourmet Sandwiches. Surviving are his parents, Jackson and Pamela McCarter of Travelers Rest; paternal grandparents, Col. and Mrs. EH McCarter of Pickens; a sister, Alison McCarter of Taylors, and a niece, Molly McCarter of Asheville, NC. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 3535 Pelham Road, Suite 101, Greenville, SC 29615 or Concerned Citizens for Animals, in recognition of his devoted cat, Milhaus, 3627 Fork Shoals Road, Simpsonville, SC 29680.
