With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Christopher “Chris” Wilton Scruggs on Thursday, March 7, 2024, in Simpsonville, SC. He was a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

Born in Gaffney, SC, he was the son of the late Wilton R. and Wilma Lester Scruggs

Chris was a loving husband to his wife Peggy for 43 years and a proud father to his three children. His grandchildren, whom he adored, affectionately called him Papa Chris. He enjoyed his time at Mauldin Church of God, where he sang in the choir and volunteered at the Church of God summer youth camp. Chris’ compassionate spirit and sense of humor touched the lives of all who knew him.

In his free time, Chris found joy in watching drag racing with his grandsons, exploring his love for horses, browsing flea markets, and traveling to the beach and mountains. His enthusiasm for life and connecting with others was truly remarkable. Chris leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will be cherished by his family.

In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by his children, Megan Jones (Casey), Christian Barfield (Steven), and Tatum Gainey (Michael); grandchildren, Camden, William, Masey, Bryson, Emaline, Rylynn, Aubree, and Hart; and sisters, Donna James, Rita Purvis, and Carol Gilchrist.

A visitation will be held Thursday, March 14, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:15 a.m. at Mauldin Church of God followed by the funeral service at 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in Cannon Memorial Park.
