Clara Jo Phillips Mullinax, born on November 5, 1929, peacefully departed this world on February 8, 2024, surrounded by the love of her family. She was the daughter of the late Joe Speed Phillips and Cora Emmalee Phillips, and she was the last survivor of her nine siblings. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Harold T. Mullinax, Senior, and their son Harold T. Mullinax, Junior.
A devoted mother, Clara Jo is survived by her loving daughters Penny Freeman of Greenville, SC, Theresa Mullinax of Bayonet Point, FL, and daughter-in-law Pam Mullinax of Anderson, SC. Her legacy lives on through her four grandchildren: Mark Freeman (Stacey), Lori Mason (Gene), Trey Mullinax (Hope), and Trent Mullinax (Catherine). Clara Jo was also blessed with 13 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren, each a testament to the enduring bonds of family she fostered.
Clara Jo was a longtime member of Crosswell First Baptist Church, where her spirit was nourished by the fellowship of her church family. She found joy and solace in nature, embracing her love for hiking and enjoying kayaking in rivers and lakes both in the United States and Canada. Her adventurous spirit extended to volunteering at Florida State Parks, where she shared her passion for nature with others.
A skilled cook and seamstress, Clara Jo’s hands created not only delicious meals but also warm memories that will be cherished by those fortunate enough to have experienced her talents. Her home was a haven of love, laughter, and the comforting aroma of home-cooked meals.
As we mourn the loss of a remarkable woman, let us also celebrate the vibrant life of Clara Jo Phillips Mullinax. Her spirit will forever resonate in the hearts of those who knew her, and her legacy will endure through the stories shared by her family and friends.
A memorial service to honor Clara Jo’s life will be held on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, at Crosswell First Baptist Church at 11:30 a.m. with visitation before the service at 10:30 a.m. Burial will take place at Greenville Memorial Gardens.
May she rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the love that she so generously gave throughout her beautiful life.
