Clyde Eldon Deaton, Sr

Clyde Eldon "Papa" Deaton, Sr., 84, husband of Ida Deaton of 22 West 8th St. Woodside, went home to be with the Lord, April 29, 2008 after a brief illness. Born in Gastonia, NC on January 2, 1924 and raised on the West Buffalo Creek section of Lake Santeetlah in Robbinsville, NC he was a son of the late Robert Lee and Frankie Farr Deaton. He was a WWII veteran of the United States Army and fought in the D-Day invasion of Normandy Beach. He loved his country and was proud to be an American. He retired from the body and paint shop of Rex Osteen Chevrolet in Greenville. Surviving in addition to his wife are his sons, Clyde Eldon Deaton, Jr. and his wife Ann of Easley, Luke Moon and his wife Francis of Greenville. His grandchildren included Andrew and Sharron Deaton of Anderson, Brian and Amy Creamer of Pelzer, Adam and Wendy Deaton of Pelzer, Austin Deaton of Easley, Shirley Gordon of Greer, and Tim Moon of Greenville, and his great grandchildren are Blake Gordon, Samantha Gordon, Joanna Deaton, and Jacob Deaton. He was predeceased by a son, Leroy Moon; and brothers, Arnold Deaton, Bobby Deaton; and a sister Louise Schlacher. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 30, 2008 from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest. The funeral service will be Thursday, May 1, 2008 at 1:30 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery, West. The family is at the residence.
