I MET DAN THROUGH MIKE ANDERSON IN 1966.  THEY INTRODUCED ME TO THE RIVER FALLS AREA.  I NOW LIVE THERE.  I VIVIDLY REMEMBER THE MCGEE HOUSE.  I WAS THERE AT PAIGE MANOR WITH RICK  AND OUR FRIENDS SINGING "FOOLS FALL IN LOVE".  DAN AND BARBARA WERE THE PERFECT COUPLE AND THEIR 40 YEARS TOGETHER PROVE IT.  IN 1967 DAN COULD TAKE THE WADE HAMPTON STUDENT DIRECTORY AND GET DATES FOR ALL OF US ON A SATURDAY AFTERNOON.  HE WAS SOME KIND OF GUY.  HE WAS DEDICATED TO HIS FAMILY AND HIS BUSINESS.
HERE'S TO A STERLING SILVER, GLASS BOTTOMED & MONOGRAMMED PINT OF ALE IN DAN'S HONOR.
WE WILL MISS YOU BROTHER.

I first met Dan in the 5th grade at Summit Drive Elementary School. My family had just moved to Greenville from North Carolina. I was standing in line with all my classmates, with my metal lunch box in my right hand. I sat the box down for a minute. Dan, being the “rascal” that he was, seized the moment and flipped the latches up on my lunch box without me noticing. When I lifted the lunch box, it fell open dumping the contents on the hard tiled floor, including a thermos full of tomato soup that was housed under the lid. The glass thermos broke, spilling bright red tomato soup as it rolled many feet across the floor. I never envisioned at that moment that Dan and I would become extremely good friends throughout life. During our high school years, we lived for “Sun Fun Week” at the beach when several of us guys would pool our money to rent a house at “The Page Manor” at Myrtle. It was a crazy week that lived up to its name. We listened to nothing but beach music, often singing along at the top of our lungs in a way that would make even Joseph Pope and Tams proud. It was during “Sun Fun Week” that Dan met and quickly fell head over heels in love with Barbara. We kidded Dan and joined together singing another great beach song that was most fitting…..”Fools Fall in Love (in a hurry)”. I also have wonderful memories of all the great times we spent at the McGee cabin in River Falls. Dan would say, “let’s Go”. We would drop everything, grab a bag of “Dukes” Sandwiches and head up there. In the winter after we all were married, we played “Monopoly” into the wee hours of the morning at the kitchen table while boiling peanuts on the wood burning stove. And once we played couples “Charades” in the living room by the fireplace. I’ve never laughed so hard. And who could forget the thrill of an iced cold morning shower since there was no hot water in the cabin. In the summer it was swimming in the dammed up river or the close by “cement pond” or maybe badminton, playing by River Falls Rules which were whatever Dan made up on the fly. And then there was the weekend long pig roast that was extremely well attended. Yes, so many wonderful memories of times spent with Dan (and Barbara). We all will miss him and his big smile and laugh. But we look forward to seeing him again at the never ending “Sun Fun Week” in heaven. God bless Dan McGee.

Thanks Brother for all the good times. You made such an effort  when I travelled from California with the kids. Susannah and Craig have fond memories of River Falls, boating and fishing at the Lake. Most of all I remember the beauty of Lesa's wedding and candles floating on the water. Rest in Peace. Sally McGee
