We celebrate the life and love of David Lee Kessinger who moved his spirit to a higher plain. David was an art teacher at Bashier Middle College where he inspired and nurtured the creative minds of young artists. Regarded for perceiving the beautiful and creative aspects of his surroundings, David had the incredible ability to enhance what was already fantastic and to create the divine. He tied this with the endless desire to lift others and urge them to explore their individuality while celebrating their talents. These acts earned him the respect and admiration of his community.
Married in 2001 to Jessica Susan Kotce, his high school sweetheart, the two spent much of their free time traveling to both fascinating regions of the U.S. and abroad. David’s belief that “all people belong, and … belong to one another,” helped him create friendships on his travels.
The arrival of their 3 sons, Noah, Jacob, and Micah, did nothing to quell their desire for exploring and the Kessinger family could be seen together visiting the caves of Belize, hiking through the hoodoos of Goblin Valley, feeding the horses at Hilton Head and exploring the wonderful settings of Greenville.
The need to find ways to connect and relate with both people and surroundings led David to the study of Yoga and then to share and teach the practice as well. Those who knew David understood his enduring belief in the harmony and unity among all people. And if we can carry one idea, one concept from his magnificent life, let it be, simply, One Love.
Family includes: Wife: Jessica, sons Noah, Jacob and Micah, father Malcolm and Malcolm’s wife Mary, brother Michael, Michael’s children Ashley and Jonathan, parents in-laws: Ken & Sue Kotce, brother-in-law Kenneth Michael Kotce, sister-in-law Stephanie Kotce.
Those that want to come and celebrate David’s life, share memories, see pictures and some of his artwork are welcome to join us on Sunday, Aug 8/13 at Thomas McAfee Northwest Chapel 6710 Whitehorse Rd Greenville, SC from 2:00 – 4:30 PM followed by A Celebration of Life Services directly afterward. We saw David often during his grade school and high school years when he was in the same class as our son and on the same soccer team. He was thoughtful and kind and very serious for someone that age. Our hearts go out to his entire family and we will keep them in our thoughts and prayers.Karen & Jerry Nindorf

He always knew how to bring the creative side out of people. No matter what in Art class he let us do projects expressing ourselves. There is not one person that has been in his classroom that has not been affected by his loving personality. He is the guy who always has his arms open for anyone who needs an ear or a hug. He is a guy who has explored many amazing places and has left many memories for us to remember. I plan on living out his legacy through love, kindness and open arms. He once told the class "my religion is love" and he will always be loved. If anyone knows the version of the songs that were played at the funeral please let me know. They are really beautiful. Thank you.

My daughter, Jewel, had Mr. Kessinger the last two school years at Brashier. She said he loved everybody (and still does). He is one of her favorite teachers. I know he made a positive impact on Jewel and many others by caring and encouraging them. She learned how to express herself through Art, and he also set a good example of how to treat others. He had a great personality and will be missed. We think about him often and are praying for you and your family. We are deeply sorry about his passing and your loss.Anita Wallace

Mr. Kessinger was such an inspiration to both of my children that has continued beyond their high school years. The Brashier community has lost a gem. My heartfelt condolences to the family.

Mr. K, as our boys called him, was an amazing person, teacher, mentor and friend. At graduation this year he actually thanked us for allowing him to love our boys. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.Von and Brenda Lipe

I am greatly saddened to learn of the passing of David. My memories of him as a art teacher at Brashier Middle College are filled with excited students exhibiting their skills and expressions of art. David was as excited sharing their work with me. I am blessed to share a short time with him as a peer faculty member. May God bless his family as they seek comfort and peace in adjusting to the loss of this precious man and family member.
