David R Wylie

David Royce Wylie, 54, of 11 Windmont Drive, husband of Mary Anne Jonakin Wylie, died Tuesday, April 10, 2007 at Duke Medical University Hospital. Born in Sheffield, AL, he was the son of John Frank and Louise Sherrill Wylie of Huntsville, AL. Mr. Wylie was a graduate of the University of Alabama earning a B.S. degree in Finance in 1974 and a J.D. in 1977. He was an attorney with Jackson Lewis, LLP, Attorneys at Law, a member of the South Carolina and Alabama Bar Associations, Labor Counsel to the National Chicken Council, and National Turkey Federation. Mr. Wylie was General Counsel of the Greenville Chamber of Commerce in 1993 and was designated by the South Carolina Supreme Court as a Certified Specialist in employment and labor law. He was immediate past chairman of the South Carolina State Chamber of Commerce Safety and Health Committee, and was chairman of the Employment and Labor Law Specialization Advisory Board of the South Carolina Supreme Court Commission on Continuing Lawyer Competence from 1996-98. He was an active participant in the Labor and Employment sections of both the American Bar Association and the South Carolina Bar. Mr. Wylie was listed in ?The Best Lawyers in America? for labor and employment law and was a frequent speaker to business groups and client seminars on OSHA and labor and employment issues. He was active in numerous business and civic organizations and was a member of St. Mary?s Catholic Church. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Mary Hunter Wylie Gibbs and her husband, Jeff, of Washington, D.C., Elizabeth Wylie of Greenville; and a brother, Doug Wylie and his wife, Heather, of Birmingham, AL. A Vigil service will be held Thursday, April 12, 2007 at 6:00 p.m. at St. Mary?s Catholic Church with visitation to follow in Gallivan Hall from 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, April 13, 2007 at Noon at the church.
