Deborah Louise Hession, of Greenville, peacefully entered her eternal rest on the eve of Sunday, October 31, 2021.

She was born on September 27, 1951 in Berea, Ohio, daughter of the late John and Mary “Mitzie” Thompson.

Debbie graduated from J.L. Mann High School and Greenville Technical College. She joined Upstate EMS Council, Inc. in 1975 and within five years rose to the position of Executive Director. Debbie lovingly implemented quality training programs and continuing education opportunities for local EMS personnel.

Debbie loved children and children loved her. She put her whole heart into everything she did and was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church.

Debbie is survived by her husband, Henry “Hank” F. X. Hession, IV; son, Henry “Hank” F. X. Hession, V and his wife Melissa; two granddaughters, Haley Maxey and her husband Jacob and Macy Hession; two grandsons, Henry “Hank” F. X. Hession, VI and Tiger Hession; two great-grandchildren, Shepherd and Gunner Maxey; siblings, John Thompson (Christina), Barbara Hall (Jack), Clifford Thompson (Linda Mae), Linda Bindewald (James), Michael Thompson (Lynne), Mark Thompson (Gail), Mary Beth Edenfield, Steven Thompson, Ronald Thompson (Reyna), and Carol Hayes (Lizanne Poehling); many nieces and nephews; an uncle, Donald Day; aunts, Betty Tomko, Barbara Duda, and Terry Ziegler. Debbie is also survived by her husband’s family including three sisters-in-law, three brothers-in-law, and their families.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, November 5, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Guests are requested to follow CDC guidelines to social distance and may wear a mask. There will be no public visitation or viewing. Burial will be held in Woodlawn Memorial Park following the mass.

Hank I am so very sorry to hear of the lost of your LOVELY wife. I have worked with Debbie for more than 20 years and have always looked forward to seeing her. She would brighten up my day. We have worked through some good times and some no so good times.........Debbie was always fair, positive and a true LADY. I, along with many others, will miss her. My the Lord be with you and your family.......I know he is with Debbie.

To Debbie's husband, Hank, and to her family: I am so sorry to hear of Debbie's passing. She was an exceptional person and she will always be remembered as extremely dedicated to her EMS calling. Debbie did an outstanding job when she was "forced" to assume the Exec. Dir. duties on short notice 40+ years ago, immediately demonstrating her abilities by running the regional office as smoothly as it had ever been done prior. Her abilities were immediately obvious to the regional office's board of directors who voted to change the minimal requirements to allow Debbie to be named permanent, full-time Executive Director. Debbie was always loyal to her EMS counties and never let us down. Debbie will always be remembered fondly by the many, many Paramedics and EMTs that passed through the regional office over the past four decades. As one of those paramedics, I pray that Debbie will rest in peace. She will certainly be missed.

My deepest sympathy for your loss. I was privileged to meet and care for Deborah at Greer Memorial. She allowed me to pray with her one night during my shift. Dear Hank and Family, my most heartfelt condolences to all of you for your loss. I cannot think of Debbie without thinking of her sweet smile and willingness to promote the prehospital care industry. I cannot think of the Upstate EMS Council without thinking of Debbie. I am sure I am not alone in thanking you for the years of dedicated leadership and compassionate service Debbie provided to the EMS industry and countless field providers. She will be missed by all of us who had the pleasure of working with her. Thank you for sharing her with all of us. May the Good Lord continue to Bless and Comfort you in the days ahead. Words cannot express the sadness I feel at this time. I’ve known Debbie for over 30 years. She was my mentor and friend. She was the epitome of Upstate EMS. Very kind, gracious, she helped many students over the years reach their goal of EMT and Paramedic. She will greatly be missed. My prayers go out to her family and friends for peace and comfort during this difficult time❤️

I feel for the family as they work through their grief moving forward. My perspective of Debbie is from EMS. She was a pioneer and will be missed. She has left us a legacy of faith, family, work ethic, and always doing what she could to help. It didn't matter what, she wanted to help and was always positive and nice.
