Dona McLeod Ashworth, 80, wife of the late Dorner Ashworth, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 25, 2022 after a brief illness.
Born in Buffalo, NY, she was the daughter of the late Donald and Elizabeth Mitchel McLeod. Dona grew up in Cleveland Heights, Ohio and graduated from Cleveland Heights High School. Dona and Dorner were married and lived in Rapid City, South Dakota and Overland Park, Kansas before spending 22 years in Concord, Ohio raising their family. As a housewife and Mom to 5 kids, she was very active in her children’s lives including various sports, school functions, and was known for being “The Neighborhood Mom”. She was a second Mom to many, and built a warm and welcoming home for one and all. Dona has resided in Simpsonville for the last 23 years where she enjoyed being a grandma of 11. She was as involved in her grandkids lives and sports, as she was her kids. Her ties to Northeast Ohio were strong, and she would visit friends and family often. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her. She was proud of her Scottish heritage and ingrained the importance of family to all of us. This is her legacy.
Left to cherish her memory are her five children, Laurel Ashworth-Fulmer of Painesville, Ohio; William Ashworth and his wife Diana of Delaware, Ohio; Brian Ashworth and his wife Kim of Simpsonville, South Carolina; Kenneth Ashworth and his wife Sarah of Simpsonville, South Carolina; Kristine Rettberg and her husband Mitchell of Simpsonville, South Carolina; eleven grandchildren, Karleigh and Evan Fulmer; Colin, Dylan and Braden Ashworth; Kalie, Maarijka, and Derek Ashworth; Mary Catherine and Caroline Ashworth; Alexandra Rettberg; and brother-in-law, James Ashworth of Huntington, West Virginia.
A visitation will be held Sunday, March 27, 2022 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Southeast. An additional visitation and service will be held the following week in Painesville, Ohio. Dona will be laid to rest in Lakeview Cemetery in Cleveland, OH.
