Donald Lee Powell, Sr., 70, of 14 Ashford Avenue, and formerly of 536 Club Drive, Saluda Lake, died on Thursday, June 29, 2006. Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late Ralph Otis Powell, Sr. and Hazel Irene Westbrook. Mr. Powell retired from the U.S. Navy where he served during the Vietnam War. He was a lifelong member of Dunean Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife of forty-eight years, Fredda Jean Whitted Powell, of the home; three daughters, Martha Powell of Greenville, Kathy Powell Brown and husband Roger of Greer, and Deana Powell of Greenville; a son, Donald L. Powell, Jr. and wife Tirzah Weast Powell, Marietta; a brother, Michael D. Powell and wife Joyce Brown Powell, of Easley; five grandchildren, Jessica Cato, Heather Brown, Ralph Powell, Jonathan Powell, and Jordan Varnadore; and a great-grandchild, Sierra Powell-Bagwell. He is predeceased by brothers, Charles ?Buddy? Powell, and Ralph Otis Powell, Jr. Memorial Services will be held on Sunday at 3:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest with visitation from 1:00 ? 2:45 p.m. prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Diabetes Association of S.C., 2711 Middleburg Drive, Suite 312, Columbia, SC 29204.

Fredda and family, I loved Don as a brother I never had...that's why I always tried to stay in touch. He was a man that no one who ever knew him will forget. He will forever be young and laughing to me. Maybe he and Alice are sharing a good laugh together
