Donna M. Lohr, 84, formerly a resident of Glassy Mountain in Landrum, South Carolina, passed away peacefully and on her own terms of natural causes on June 25, 2022 at The Blake in Greenville.
Donna Sue McGrath was born on December 2, 1937, in Cleveland, Ohio, daughter of the late Frank A. and Marie S. McGrath. Donna grew up in East Aurora, New York. She attended East Aurora High School which included a year as an exchange student in Germany. She attended St. Lawrence University where she was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Delta Delta Delta. She spent a year as an exchange student in France at La Sorbonne, before graduating Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s degree in French.
She married James A. Kuhns and had two daughters. Although the couple divorced, they remained the best of friends. Donna then married George William “Bill” Lohr, Jr., who preceded her in death in 2018.
Donna served as Director of Development for George Jewell Catering in Chicago, IL, and later owner of Kuhns Resource Group, a meeting/event planning firm. She also served on the Board of Directors of the Brevard (NC) Music Center.
Donna was a nationally ranked bridge player. She loved to travel extensively and especially enjoyed cruising on the Seabourne. She was passionate about food, proper grammar, and beautiful symphony music. Donna will be remembered for her natural grace and generosity, her exquisite sense of taste and style, her wicked sense of humor, her impeccable manners, and her appreciation of a fine Prosecco.
Donna is survived by her brother, Ronald S. McGrath (Mary); daughters, Betsy Kuhns and Kristen Kuhns (Rob Kleiman); grandchildren, Brandon Kellogg (Stephanie), Jason Kellogg (Meagan), and Rachel Kuhns; and her great-grandchildren, Mariska and Gage Kellogg. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews: Alex (Keri) McGrath, Eliza McGrath, Banks McGrath, Grace McGrath, Georgie McGrath, Laura Rippy (Bill), Alexandra Rippy, Sterling Rippy, David Donovan (Anna), Scott Donovan, Chris Sykes, Kelly Wright (Taylor), Sullivan Wright, Layla Wright, Michael Donovan (Jessica Rhodes), Will Donovan, and Jacob Donovan. Donna also leaves behind Schnitzel, her beloved miniature Schnauzer.
