Dora Mae (Greer) Reed, age 83, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 8th, 2024 after a courageous battle with dementia.
Dora, affectionately known as “Mae” by those closest to her, was born November 28th, 1940, in Bolt, WV to her loving parents, the late Andrew and Edith (Burchette) Greer.
In 1959, Dora married the love of her life, the late Jim Reed and together they raised three beloved sons: Jim (Yevette), Wayne (Ruthie), and the late David (Monalee). She cherished her role as a mother and grandmother, and her dedication to her family was unwavering. She adored her seven grandchildren: Michelle, Matthew, Michael, Erica, Jamie, Quinton, Jimmy and the late Jeremy, as well as, her 16 great-grandchildren. Dora was the oldest daughter of ten children. She is survived by her siblings, Roger Greer (Carol) of Warner Robins, GA, Sherman Greer (Kim) of Centralia, IL, Shirley Cook (Dick) of Powdersville, SC, Connie Smith (Mike) of Easley, SC, and Patsy Bail (Mark) of Athens, OH.
A graduate of East Bank High School, WV, Class of 1957, Dora pursued a career as a Patients Accounts Manager at O’Bleness Hospital in Athens, OH from 1974 to 2005. She was admired for her dedication and professionalism in her work and was recognized for her stellar performance throughout her career.
Dora will be remembered for her adventurous spirit, spunk, determination, and devotion to her loved ones. She remained loyal to her husband Jim until the end, cherishing their bond and the memories they created together. Despite the challenges of dementia, Dora faced each day with remarkable strength, regularly offering hugs and kisses to those who loved her.
In addition to her husband, parents, son and grandson, Dora was preceded in death by her sister, Joy, and three brothers, Wheeler, Leonard, and Dewey. Dora leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and resilience that will be cherished by all who knew her.

Services will be held at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes Southeast Chapel, 1604 NE Main Street, Simpsonville, SC 29681 on Monday, March 11th, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. Burial and Graveside Services will be held Wednesday, March 13th, 2024 ar 1:00 p.m. in Athens Memorial Gardens, Athens, OH 45701.
