Doris Rudd Grooms, 87, went home to be with her Savior on January 1, 2008 after an extended illness. She was born in Berkely County, SC on March 15, 1920 to the late Elie and Lynette Boykin Rudd. She was the widow of Berry C. Grooms. Mrs. Grooms was a native of Asheville, NC and moved to Greenville, SC in 1973. She was a charter member of Grace Presbyterian Church and graduated from Lee Edwards High School. She was a homemaker, a great cook, loved to read, work jigsaw puzzles, and played a mean game of canasta. Surviving are two daughters, Sandra Riddle and husband Earl, of Greenville and Janis LaBroad of Charlotte, NC; a grandson who she raised and adopted, Todd Grooms; two granddaughters, Angela Riddle Day of Greenville and Shelly LaBroad Snipes of Charlotte, NC; and three great grandchildren, Craig Day, Maegan Day and Blaine Snipes. She was preceded in death by a son, Eric Grooms; two grandsons, Jason Grooms and an infant son of Eric Grooms; four brothers and three sisters. The funeral service will be held Thursday, January 3, 2008 at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest at 7:00 pm with visitation to follow the service. The Rev. Charles Kuykendall will be officiating. Burial will be Friday, January 4, 2008 at 1:00 pm at Pisgah View Memorial Park in Candler, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Grace Presbyterian Church, 377 Deer Creek Road, Easley, SC 29640 or Open Arms Hospice, 1836 West Georgia Road, Simpsonville, SC 29680.
