Douglas Ervin Penland, Sr

Douglas Ervin Penland, Sr., 87, of Piedmont, died Tuesday, December 11, 2007 at his residence. Born in Anderson, he was the son of the late Grady and Maude Compton Penland and husband of the late Margaret Reese Penland. Mr. Penland was a retired Electrical Foreman for J. P. Stevens and also worked at Foam Partners. He attended Kingdom Hall of Jehovah?s Witnesses. He grew up in the Camperdown section of Greenville and was a World War II Army veteran, serving in the 30th Infantry Old Hickory Division. Surviving are a daughter, Beverly Messier and husband Allen of Mauldin; three sons, Doug Penland, Jr. and wife Betty of Piedmont, Terry Penland and wife Roberta of Pickens, and Joel Penland of Easley; seven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Beth Penland Nash. Memorials may be made to Gentiva Hospice, 440 Roper Mountain Road, Greenville, SC 29615. Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 12, 2007 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. The graveside service will be held Thursday, December 13, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at Graceland West Cemetery with burial to follow. The family is at the residence.
