Dr. George Paul Reid, III, 66, husband of Leah Reid, died Wednesday, April 17, 2024.
Born in Greenville, SC, George was the son of the late George Paul “Jack” and Evelyn Scott Reid.

George was a proud graduate of Clemson University and MUSC College of Pharmacy. While in pharmacy school, he met his future wife, Leah Small. After completing his education at MUSC, George and Leah married and made their home in Greer SC. For the last ten years, the couple has lived in Anderson.

George began his career at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center as a clinical pharmacist and advanced to Director of Pharmacy. Most recently, he served as Director of Pharmacy at AnMed Health in Anderson, SC before retiring in January 2023. George was a key fixture in South Carolina and MUSC Pharmacy for 40 years during which time he received multiple honors and recognitions.

George’s legacy includes his love and faithfulness to his Lord and Savior. George and Leah were active members of Taylors First Baptist Church for many years until moving to Anderson where they joined New Prospect Baptist Church and the Good News Sunday School Class.

George was dedicated to his family and found immense joy in being a husband and father, but his favorite role was that of “Grampy”. He was the epitome of a true southern gentleman.

In addition to his beloved wife of 42 years, George is survived by their three children, Anna Nichols (Kevin), Paul Reid (Whitney), and Scott Reid (Holly); nine grandchildren: Hudson Reid, Jay Nichols, Foster Reid, Ellie Reid, Manning Reid, Charlie Reid, Molly Reid, Tate Reid, and Edie Reid; sister-in-law, LeAnn Smith (Warren); cousin, Carey Scott (Melisa Bates); niece, Avery Krawczyk; and nephew, Douglas Smith.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Downtown followed by the service at 12:00 noon in the Chapel officiated by the Reverend Drew Gunter. A private burial will be held in Taylors First Baptist Church cemetery.

Memorials may be made to New Prospect Baptist Church, 2503 Whitehall Rd., Anderson, SC 29625.

Dearest Leah, I just found out about George today. I moved away from Greenville in 1994 , but remember fondly your sweet friendship and our carpools to Taylor’s First and Elementary school. George would take Marian with Paul and Anna every morning. Please know that I am praying for you and the kids!

Dear Leah and Family - Paul's phone call last Thursday came as such a shock. I am so sorry and saddened that George has passed. But I rejoice as you do that George is now in Heaven. George was, without a doubt, one of the kindest people I have ever met. May each of you hold the memories and love of George Reid close, and may you feel the peace and love of God as you walk this season of life. Prayers for you all. Grayson

I worked with George greater than 30 years at Spartanburg Regional. It was very evident that George was a follower of Jesus Christ. It was an honor and privilege to work with such a Godly man. What I remember about George is that he daily displayed The Fruit of The Spirit. Deb and I will be praying for HIS perfect peace and comfort to carry your family through this difficult time of grief and loss.

You can tell a lot about a man by the family he raises. I didn't know George on a very personal level, but seeing him at All Pro Dad with Jay each month made my heart happy. Knowing the kind of daughter he raised in Anna says a lot about the type of Christian man he was. George and Leah came to my mother's funeral in December of 2024 on behalf of Anna. That meant so much to me that they would come to show me support even when they had never met my mother. George will be missed by many but he left an incredible legacy for his family.

Leah we are praying for you all. You and George were always so kind when you lived on the pond in Sugar Creek - I think all of TFBC would gather in your yard for the 4th of July fireworks. George will be missed by so many. May you feel the loving arms of Jesus around you in the coming days. Ps. 34:18

George was a wonderful gentleman, professional, and friend. We bonded immediately upon my arrival at AnMed. He contributed so much to our organization, especially in developing our pharmacy team. I met George on the SRHS Gibbs Cancer Center elevator early 2009, not having a clue that he was headed to the same place as me, for MY pharmacist interview. He was always the same kind, perfect Southern gentleman who chose to show grace consistently from meeting as a perfect stranger, every meeting thereafter, through difficult conversations, and everything in between. We only disagreed on Clemson vs. Carolina and I especially loved bringing my USC students to his office! Leah and family, I am so sorry for your great loss and will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

With sincere condolences! He was fine person from childhood until God called him home. As children my siblings, Morris, June,Lynn, and myself played all kinds of games in our backyard daily. Our love and prayers are extended to all the Reid Family, especially Leah, Paul, Anna, and Scott. We were so blessed to know George through the marriage of their son Scott to Holly. Each time we would gather during celebrations, George was always so warm and kind… a true southern gentlemen! George adored his family! His values and faith in God and love for family, have been passed on to his children. We have witnessed that! Such a legacy and job “well done true and faithful servant.” We know there are no words to remove your sorrow at this time. But hold tight to the truth, that God has kept His promises and George is alive and well in the presence of His Savior. Not the end, but the beginning and someday soon, we all will be together again! George was a great Brother in Christ and a very special pharmacist who I was blessed to know, to teach and to work with, He was also a loving and caring person and family man who will be greatly missed! How do you describe a saintly man? I say George Reid and that is and has been how I have known him. George and Leah have only been friends for a short while, we met at New Prospect Baptist and have been good friends ever since.
