Edna Willeen Yates, 87, passed away on Thursday, February 8, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was the cherished wife of the late Lewis Yates, with whom she shared 61 beautiful years of marriage.
Born in Greenville, SC, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Ollie Cisson Norris.
Edna was a member of Westwood Baptist Church for many years; the place where she strengthened her faith in the Lord.
Edna had a zest for life and found joy in the simple pleasures it offered. She had a passion for travel, often exploring the serene landscapes of the mountains and the tranquility of the beach. Additionally, she found delight in the art of shopping, finding treasures and sharing in the experience with loved ones.
Above all, Edna’s greatest joy came from caring for her family, particularly her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her love knew no bounds, and her nurturing spirit created lasting memories for generations to come.
Edna leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and devotion. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
She is survived by sons, Joseph Yates (Donna), Kenneth Yates (Cathy), and Terry Yates; five grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.
In addition to her loving husband and parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Barbara Ferguson and Margie King; brother, Joseph L. Norris.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, from 12:30 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Northwest, with the funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m. in the Northwest Chapel. Burial will be held in Graceland Cemetery West .
