Edward B. Holland, 85, of 10225 Edwards Place, widower of Madeline R. Drohan Holland, died Friday, January 4, 2008 at Presbyterian Hospital, Matthews, N.C. Born in Yonkers, N.Y., he was the son of the late Timothy and Katherine Buckley Holland. Mr. Holland was a graduate of the class of 1940 of Gorton High School and later earned a degree from New York University. Mr. Holland was retired from New York Bell and was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Simpsonville, SC. He was a United States Navy veteran, serving in Seabees during WWII, a member of the Knights of Columbus where he achieved the rank of Faithful Navigator, the Catholic War Veterans and the Telephone Pioneers of America. Surviving are two brothers, William R. Holland and Vincent A. Holland both of Yonkers, N.Y.; a sister, Margaret Holland of Yonkers, N.Y.; a niece, Betsy Hanover and a nephew, Hugh Drohan, who where his caregivers, as well as numerous other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by siblings, Timothy J. Holland, John F. Holland, Helen H. Holland, Thomas D. Holland, Joseph E. Holland and Ann K. Leidel. Memorials may be made to the Knights of Columbus, 762 Mauldin Road, Greenville, SC 29607. Recitation of the Rosary will be held Tuesday, January 8, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. with visitation to follow until 8:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 9, 2008 at 12:10 p.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Graceland East Memorial Park.
