Elsie Louise Compton Christopher

Elsie Louise Compton Christopher, 89, of 106 South Davis Drive, entered into Eternal Rest with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Thursday, September 22, 2005. She was the widow of the late LaVoy Christopher, who was the Love of her Life. Born in Greer, SC, on August 20, 1916, she was the daughter of the late John Benjamin and Lula Belle Edwards Compton. She was pre-deceased by two brothers: Lucious Compton and Houston Compton; and five sisters: Mattie Compton, Edith Roddy, Willie Bedingfield, Ruby Harvell, and Lois Pearson. She was the last surviving member of her family. She is survived by one daughter, Elsie LaVoylyn Christopher Morris and her husband The Reverend R. Edwin Morris of Greenville, and three sons: Joel LaVoy Christopher and his wife Patricia of Easley; Reginald Manfred Christopher and his wife Suzie of Greer, and Anthony Barron Christopher and his wife Yvonne of Greenville. Also surviving are six Grandsons: R. Edwin Eddie Morris, Jr., Joel Christopher, Jr., Reggie Christopher, Jr., Kevin Christopher, Brent Christopher, and Tony Christopher, Jr. She is survived by four Granddaughters: Marla Morris Magrini, Heather Christopher, Tonia Bryant, and Andrea Christopher-Snipes. She is survived by nine Great-Grandchildren: Brandon Oberle, Gunnar Morris, Gavin Morris, Tyler Christopher, Lindsey Christopher, Regan Christopher, Kayla Bryant, Garyn Bryant, and Sierra Snipes. She was a member of the Tremont Ave. Church of God for almost 70 years. She sang in the Tremont Sanctuary Choir for many years, as well as a member of the Funeral Dinner Committee and Fund-Raising Committees. In 1986 she received the honor of being voted ?Mother of the Year? at the Tremont Ave. Church of God. For many years she was voted the ?Mother With The Largest Family Present? on Mother?s Day at Tremont. She served 2 terms as PTA President of the former Judson Elementary School and was a Life-Time Member of the National Parent-Teachers Association. She was always a ?Grade Mother? for each of her children?s school classes and baked many cupcakes and cookies for the children to enjoy! She was always involved in her children?s activities whether at church or school. Funeral Services will be conducted Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown Chapel, and the family will receive friends on Friday evening from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will be at the residence: 106 S. Davis Drive, Greenville, SC. She was a wonderful Mother who always set a Christian example to all her family; teaching her children from a very young age to always put Jesus first in their lives and trust in Him. She was a wonderful Christian Mother who was always kind and good to everyone she met. We will miss her dearly and the unconditional love that she gave each of her children and grandchildren. We will look forward to seeing her again in Heaven.
