Emily Bishop Blair, 101, wife of the late William Oliver Blair of Greenville, passed away Tuesday, November 8, 2022.
Born in Greenville, SC, she was the daughter of the late John C. and Addie Buchanan Bishop.
After the death of her father, Emily (6), and four of her siblings moved to Tiffin, Ohio, to the Junior Order of the United American Mechanics Home, an orphanage of 1200 children until graduation from high school in 1939.
Emily was a lifelong member of Woodside Baptist Church. She worked in the textile industry at Poinsett Mill and later retired from Fiber Industries. She volunteered 16 years at St. Francis Hospital, clocking over 11,500 hours. Emily delivered Meals on Wheels which she continued after moving to Spring Park Senior Living. She crocheted for many years and loved giving handmade blankets to babies.
Emily is survived by her son, Randy Blair (Janet); son-in-law, Cecil Burgess; grandchildren, Gary Burgess (Kristen), Darren Burgess (Dana), Erin Oliver (Chris), Jeremy Blair (Laura), and Courtney Burrell (Scott); great grandchildren, Cayce Burgess, Carey Burgess, Nathan Burgess, Jeremy Burgess, Aiden Oliver, Ellie Oliver, Sawyer Burrell, Harper Burrell, and Luke Blair.
In addition to her beloved husband and parents, she was preceded in death by six brothers; three sisters; and her daughter, Joyce Blair Burgess.
A visitation will be held Friday, November 11, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Northwest, with the funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be held in Graceland Cemetery West.
