Emma Louise Potter Curry of Piedmont, SC, devoted wife to Donald Curry, passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2024, at the Upstate Hospice House, in Anderson, SC.
Born December 21, 1947, in her beloved hometown of Waldwick, N.J., Emma was the youngest child of Charlotte Potter and Russell Potter.
Emma grew up in New Jersey; it was there where she became pen pals with Donald Curry who was serving in Vietnam. Once he was stationed back in NJ, he then called her up and asked her out. Six months later they married and moved to South Carolina.
She began her professional career in banking with Bankers Trust in Greenville, SC, and her last part of her career she was in a management role for the payroll department at Ahold. She was perfect for the career roles that she held as she was beautiful, friendly, and very giving. During her retirement, she loved to go on family vacations, traveling all over, but Hilton Head being one of the favorite spots. Going to lunch and to the movies with her daughter was always a delight. She was an avid Clemson Tiger football fan and enjoyed watching a round or two of golf.
Emma will mostly be remembered as a devout Christian, wife, and mother. She was a member of Dunean United Methodist Church in Greenville, SC. Her membership provided her with a foundation of faith, strength, and friendship. She served her church by singing in the choir, being a member of the board, treasurer, and Sunday school teacher. She considered herself most fortunate to belong to this church.
Emma’s legacy will continue on in the hearts of her wonderful husband of 56 years, Donald of Piedmont, SC; her adoring daughter, Debbie Curry Mahaffey and husband, Les; and precious grandson, Jonathan Holmes all of Easley, SC, and her loving sister, Helen Potter of Piedmont, SC.
In addition to her parents, Emma was preceded in death by her brother, Jack Potter.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Downtown with the funeral service to follow in the Chapel. The committal service will take place in Greenville Memorial Gardens.
