Evelyn Brown Holcombe

Evelyn Brown Holcombe, 93, widow of Walter Daniel Holcombe, died Tuesday, November 14, 2006 at Roger Huntington Nursing Center. Born in Anderson County, she was a daughter of the late Charles Robert Brown, Sr. and Marie Stuart Brown. Mrs. Holcombe was retired from Piedmont Industries and was a member of Second Baptist Church, Greenville. She enjoyed doing for others and loved people. Surviving are a daughter, Jean H. Gilstrap and her husband H. Allen Gilstrap, Jr. of Greer; a sister, Helen Dearman of Greenville; two grandchildren, Todd Gilstrap of Greenville, Chuck Gilstrap of McKinney, TX.; and two great grandchildren, Courtney Gilstrap and Carson Gilstrap. Memorials may be made to Second Baptist Church, Greenville, 304 E. Camperdown Way, Greenville, SC 29601 or to the American Heart Association, 3535 Pelham Road, Suite 101, Greer, SC 29651. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, November 18, 2006 at 12:00 p.m. in the chapel of Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. Visitation will be held prior to the services from 10:30 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park. The family will be at the home of the daughter, Jean Gilstrap, 135 Oak Wind Circle, Greer, SC 29651.
