Frank James Mills, Jr. was born September 26th, 1935 in Morristown, New Jersey the son of Frank Mills Sr. and Teresa Clarke Mills. He attended Delbarton High School and Georgetown University where he excelled as a student athlete in golf and baseball.

A lifelong Catholic, Frank was a devoted husband to his beautiful wife of 63 years, Melanie Thompson Mills and their children Christopher, Jennifer and Amanda.

Frank served as an FBI agent for 32 years in Greenville, SC retiring as the Senior Agent in Charge. He then assumed a role with Bank of America as Head of Corporate Security. In addition, he was one of the FBI’s two designated hostage negotiators for South Carolina.

Frank was a fixture at the Cleveland Street YMCA for over 50 years and a regular southpaw contender with the Golden Boys at Pebble Creek Golf Club.

With a twinkle in his Irish eyes, Frank was always ready with a story and a smile. He never met a stranger.

Frank is survived by his wife Melanie and children Chris (Terri), Jennifer (Jerry) and Amanda as well as 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, April 18, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church. The family will receive friends following the service.

To all of those who came to my father's funeral service, thank you for being there to celebrate his life with my family. We are heartbroken he is gone, but know that he is now at peace in God's kingdom. My father was a loving, caring and dedicated man that we will miss dearly. I was truly blessed to be his daughter and will cherish the memories we made forever.

Frank was a handsome,charming retired man when I made his acquaintance. I golfed with his wife Melanie and socialized with them at Pebble Creek Club. They were a devoted couple, thoughtful friends and had a wonderful family. What a pleasure to have known him. He will be missed. Sending love to Melanie and her family, Roxanne and Alan Cordonier

My deepest condolences to all the Mills family at this time. I had the greatest pleasure of knowing Frank for a brief time. He made me laugh, with a twinkle in his eye but only after his morning cup of coffee! We laughed at all my quirky English phrases and he loved the idea of a lie-in!. He was an amazing father to his three wonderful children, an even greater Pop-pops to all his grandchildren but most of all a true life partner to Melanie. Rest in peace now Frank, you will be missed but loved forever. Xx

As long as I can remember, Frank was a part of my life! Being Mandy's best friend since 2nd grade has left me with a plethora of memories. Most from Shallowford (and many are hilarious) The Mills Family is so unique and dynamic and such a testament to Frank and Mel. Lots of love to all. The service today was incredible.

So wonderful to have known Frank as a retired FBI agent. Chuck and I have many fond memories of Frank from the Society of former Special Agents of the FBI. He was so much fun, lively and full of great stories. He and his lovely wife Melanie hosted a summer barbeque at his house for our retired agents group and we had such a good time. Frank and Melanie came to our house for a Christmas get together and we also got together at a Greenville Drive game. We will miss Frank. May he rest in peace.

I was a 45 year banker in Greenville and got to know Frank through the TWO times I was robbed and our time at the Y. One of the best stories was my teenage son and I were going in the Y and Frank and Jenifer were pulling in.. anxious to impress my son I introduced him…when we were leaving he says in awe do you know who that was and I yes that’s my good friend Frank…he says no no no that was Jenifer Mills with the golf network

As a former Assistant US Attorney I was fortunate to work closely with Frank, who was an outstanding agent. I always valued him professionally, and as a friend. He was dedicated to his faith, his family, and his country. My condolences to his family.

Jennifer, I am so very sorry to get this news. Thanks for including me. I know how close that you and your father were, and I know that this is heartbreaking. You are in my prayers. Please stop by again when you can. Jim

What an honor it was to know Mr. Mills. I grew up next door to the Mills, in Gower Estates. He would always interact with the kids in the neighborhood when sports were involved. I observed early on that he was a master of, "all of them." He was never flashy but tried to teach us the proper technique. He never spoke of his FBI work. I held that in awe when I was in his presence. I do recall him letting me look through his "FBI" binoculars once. I still swear that they could see through walls! I'm 66 now and when I encounter folks that brag about their jobs or our neighbors' jobs, I just say, " I grew up next door to a real FBI agent!" To Mrs. Mills, Chris, Jenny, and Mandy, you were in the presence of greatness. He is with you every day.

I am so sorry for your loss. The caregivers at the Woodlands loved your dad and spouse. He was always ready to tell a joke or cut up with you. I will miss his smile and his whitty personality. You are right, he always had a twinkle in his eyes With much love Teresa
