Fred Edwin “Ed” Taylor, 97, of Greenville, SC, died peacefully on Sunday morning, April 7, 2024.
He was born in Greenville in 1926 to Fred and Essie Taylor and shared his childhood with his three brothers, Warren, Bill, and Wayne, working on the family farm.
Ed attended Ellen Woodside before spending a year at Furman University. He then served his country as a Seabee with the US Navy and was stationed in Hawaii in 1946.
A kind-spirited man, Ed always made time for his family even when his work as a Sales Manager with Life of Georgia was demanding. He was known for being a jokester and always tried to bring laughter and joy to those around him. Ed was a long-time member of Augusta Heights Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Janie Chapman Taylor; two daughters, Diann Taylor Rollins and Jill Taylor Purdy (Dennis); and one sister-in-law, Jean Taylor.
In addition to his parents and brothers, Ed was preceded in death by his son, Mark Edwin Taylor; son-in-law, Arthur R. “Sonny” Rollins; and two sisters-in-law, Joanne Taylor and Lois Taylor.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, April 16, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Downtown followed by the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel. Burial will be in Greenville Memorial Gardens.
