Frederick Jacob Collins, Jr., 70, of 801 Botany Road, died Sunday, January 22, 2006 at his residence. Mr. Collins was born May 21, 1935 in Greenville, SC , a son of the late Frederick J. and Daisy Leona Collins. He attended Greenville High School and was an active member of Overbrook Baptist Church. In 1964, at the age of 29, he incorporated Collins Music Company. He was President of the Amusement and Music Operator?s Association and helped establish the association?s Executive Development Program taught at Notre Dame University. Throughout his career he lectured at and attended numerous professional continuing education courses and seminars. He was also a member of the Hejaz Shrine Temple, A.A.O.N.M.S. and was a Scottish and York Rite mason. In 1986 he created the non-profit Fred Collins Foundation for charity. He was a member of the University of South Carolina, School of Law Partnership Advisory Board, and supported endowments and professorships at the law school. He was appointed by Governor Carroll Campbell as a Commissioner for the Commission of the Future of South Carolina. He was a member of the Greenville Technical College Foundation Board where he established the Fred Collins Endowed scholarship, and contributed to Greenville Law Enforcement Officer Scholarships. Mr. Collins is survived by daughters; Kathy Schneider and her husband Hal of Lilburn GA., Felicia Robbins and her husband David of Simpsonville, SC., Cindy Biggerstaff and her husband Gene of Inman, SC.; a son, Frederick J. Collins, III of Columbia, SC.; grandchildren, Heather Long, Hannah Hughes, Mary Catherine Robbins, James Robbins; and a great- granddaughter, Aubrey Long. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Overbrook Baptist Church, 1705 East North Street, Greenville, SC 29607; Greenville Cancer Society, 113 Mills Avenue, Greenville, SC 29605; or to the Salvation Army , PO Box 1237, Greenville, SC 29602. Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 25, 2006 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM in the chapel of Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, January 26, 2006 at 1:00 PM at Overbrook Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery, Liberty, SC. The family will be at the residence.
