Freeman Leon Matthews, 76, beloved husband of 47 years to Teresa Matthews, went home to be with Jesus, Sunday, March 6, 2022.
Born in Greenville, SC, he was the son of the late Freeman and Addie McClellan Matthews.
Leon proudly served his country as a Marine during the Vietnam War. He had a strong work ethic and was one the hardest working men you would ever meet. Leon excelled in all he did, he spent 50 years in the box business. He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church and loved His Lord and serving Him. He loved his family with a love like no other. His family felt very blessed to have had him because God gave them His very best when giving them Leon. He was a man of great honor, faith and love. His memory and legacy will live on through his loved ones especially his children and grandchildren.
In addition to his beloved wife Teresa, Leon is survived by his four precious daughters, Misty Baines (Chris), Crystal Rhodes (Bobby), Angel Matthews (Ricky), and Penny Rogers (Derek); his four grandchildren that were the loves of his life, Kiresten Rhodes, Brady Rhodes, Sierra Harris and Mason Raines; his last living sibling, Pat Towery; and a few young men that were near and dear to his heart, Daniel Rogers, Deven Rogers, Ricky Harris, Jr., Brandon Harris and Matthew Harris.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two sisters, Ellen Brookshire and Betty Leur.
A visitation will be held Sunday, March 13, 2022, from 12:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Homes, Northwest, with a funeral service following at 2:00 p.m. in the Northwest Chapel. Burial will be held in Graceland Cemetery West .
