Gina Anne Wente, 32, wife of David Paul Wente, died Monday, February 26, 2024 after a hard-fought battle with an aggressive Metastatic Breast Cancer.

Born in White Plains, NY, daughter of Richard Elword Mannix, Jr. and Mary Vera Mannix (nee Roeckell). She was raised in Larchmont, NY and attended Saints John & Paul School and later The Ursuline School in New Rochelle, NY. She was an avid swimmer and went on to swim at College of the Holy Cross in Worchester, MA, graduating with a degree in Economics and Accounting. She joined GE Capital in 2013 through the Financial Management Program and went on to meet her husband, Dave, during her time on the Corporate Audit Staff (CAS). She and Dave moved to Cincinnati, OH following CAS in 2017 and later moved to Chicago in 2019 for a position with Ferrara Candy Company, a role and company which she enjoyed dearly. Gina and Dave engaged in 2019 and were married November 13, 2021. They welcomed their daughter, McKenzie, November 4, 2022. Gina and Dave moved to Greenville, SC in 2023 for Dave’s work and Gina continued to work remotely for Ferrara. Gina was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in January of 2024. As a result of complications from the cancer, David Charles, was delivered prematurely at 29 weeks on February 1, 2024. Gina relentlessly fought the disease and complications from it but lost her battle February 26, 2024.

Gina will be remembered by her family and friends as a wonderful mother, wife and daughter. She was tenacious and the driving force behind her nuclear family, planning vacations, weekends, and daily schedules to make the most out of life and always impeccably organized. She made a lasting impression on those that knew her as a loyal and genuine friend, maintaining close contact with her friends from childhood, college, GE, Ferrara, and the various places she lived. She always made time for those closest to her, acting as a patriarch to her siblings and cousins and was in constant contact with friends near and far. Her quirks were one of her most endearing qualities, from the audible mmm’s when she tasted something she loved to her inexplicable fear of rabbits. She loved to travel, having been to 6 of the 7 Wonders of the World and never saying no to a new adventure. But Gina found her true calling as a wonderful mother, creating an indelible and enriching bond with her daughter, McKenzie, playing games, reading countless books, and always bringing a smile to her face. She fought fiercely to hold her son, David, and leaves him healthy, strong, and nurtured.

In addition to her husband and parents, she is survived by her two children, McKenzie Anne and David Charles; one brother, Richard Elword Mannix, III and his fiancé Grace Kaeding; and two sisters, Christine Marie Mannix and Katharine Mary Mannix. She is preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Richard Elword Mannix, Sr. and Jeannine Charde (nee Pfeiffer) and maternal grandparents, Charles Nicholas Roeckell, Jr. and Suzanne Assunta (nee Marella).

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday, March 9, 2024 at 12:00 noon at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Larchmont, NY.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Swim Across America in support of cancer research, a charity which she and her family have supported since her childhood. A team has been set up in her honor to which you may donate here.

I cannot begin to describe how devastated I am for Gina, her own budding family, and the wider Mannix + Wente clans. Gina was an excellent person overall, fun to be around and someone who enlivened every conversation. In my brief time as her swim coach, she was fiercely competitive and naturally athletic which served her well in the pool. Gina, along with her pal Meghan Baker, were our de facto team leaders who made each practice & meet more of a group hangout than a chore. I'm so deeply sorry cancer decided to steal you away. It's never fair when it appears but this in particular feels abrupt and so very early to have lost your bright and warm soul to the other side. I had the privilege of meeting and becoming friends with Gina in 2015 when we both joined Corporate Audit Staff. My experiences and memories are heavily infused with stories involving Gina and our friend crew. I couldn’t imagine what our trips would have been like without her laughs, jokes, mannerisms, and utmost fun she always created. Dave and families, Ryan and I send our love and condolences. Dave, I have always considered you and Gina both true friends and role models that I looked up to in many ways. Gina’s legacy will continue on through you and your family.

I had the privilege and absolute joy of living with Gina in Stamford, CT while both working at GE Capital. We shared Holy Cross as an alma mater so became fast friends when we met during her internship at GE. Gina was always a bright shining light with the BEST sense of humor (and belly laugh that came along with it). One of my favorite memories of Gina is a triathlon we did together in Stamford one summer. We both signed up for the Olympic distance and I used to joke with her that she needed to teach me to swim. Long story short, Gina did not prioritize the training, so moved to the "sprint" version of the triathlon -- which she did after very little training but it was no big deal to her. The sprint triathlon started first and was half the distance of the Olympic, so while we were together on the beach beforehand, it was clear I'd be seeing Gina at the finish line to celebrate. Well, Gina absolutely crushed the swim (me, not so much, but I did use the techniques she taught me the one day we went to the pool together, which is the only reason I made it through that portion of the race). Anyway, much to my extreme surprise... I caught up to Gina on the biking portion. My jaw dropped when I saw her and rode up behind her as she was putt-putting along with a VERY flat tire! We were cackling. I could not believe she was still trudging through the race... but she did it. It did not matter that she was going to come in dead last in the sprint triathlon... she finished the 0.5mile swim, 13.1 mile bike and 6.2 mile run after basically no training, and on a flat tire for more than half the biking portion - what a force. I've been reflecting a lot about Gina and all the great memories I have of her. I will always cherish our friendship. To the Mannix and Wente families.. I am deeply sorry to each of you for the loss of such an amazing daughter, sister, wife, mother and friend.

I met Gina in 2019 when I interviewed at Ferrara and I knew immediately that we would be friends. Instead of an interview, we ended up having a casual conversation as if we’d been friends for years. So while Gina started out as my boss, she quickly became a friend. Gina was always there for me when I needed advice whether it was about work, my career, pregnancy, travel, or even where to find the best vodka pasta. Gina wasn’t just passionate about her job but also about driving change. She joined the policy pillar of the Ferrara Women Who Lead employee group and worked hard on improving the parental leave policy. She truly was a selfless and caring person. I’m so lucky to have called her a mentor, boss, colleague and friend. David, Christine, and family - I’m so sorry for your loss. Gina was an amazing person and she will be greatly missed. I first met Gina when she was assigned to manage our team's budget. Her ability to solve problems and improve how we work in a short period of time was amazing. It was clear to me from the start that she would likely not be in that role very long and indeed she moved quickly into leadership roles taking on more responsibilities and addressing bigger challenges. Gina's lasting impact at Ferrara goes far beyond her many accomplishments. Gina's positive attitude, sense of humor, kindness and ultimately her courage is an inspiration to those of us who had the honor of working with her. I pray that Gina's family finds strength and some small comfort knowing that she touched so many.

I had the privilege of working with Gina for the past 5 years. I distinctly remember the day she interviewed at Ferrara and noticing she was a special individual who would fit right in. We worked together through some interesting projects and some not-so-interesting projects and through it all, Gina was always professional and never complained. She always welcomed the next project. Her ability to project manage and execute across any task she worked on was unparalleled. She was so skilled at navigating challenges and working cross-functionally no matter what the assignment was. What stood out more than anything work related was her love of family, friends and life in general. She always had a positive attitude and a smile on her face. She will be so, so missed here at Ferrara but I hope Dave, McKenzie, and David, along with her family and friends can remember the tremendous impact she made on our organization and on our teams.
